My Story

On Friday 26th September 2025 from 9:00am at Epworth Hall, Coinagehall Street, Helston, Poundstretcher Helston, The Fishermen’s Mission, and Central Methodist Church are teaming up to host Helston’s Biggest Coffee Morning & Jumble Sale in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.

What began as a simple coffee chat quickly grew into a big idea: to bring the people of Helston together to raise money for a charity that touches so many lives. Cancer affects 1 in 2 of us, either directly or through someone we love, and Macmillan’s work is a lifeline for families facing some of their toughest times.

This event is about more than coffee and cake - though there will be plenty of both! Guests can look forward to a warm welcome, a lively raffle with prizes from local businesses, and a bustling jumble sale full of bargains. At 10am, we will also hold an official head count as we attempt to set a record for Helston’s biggest ever coffee morning.

Alongside the coffee morning itself, special fundraising challenges are also taking place between 1st and 26th September:

• Rev Danny Reed and his wife, Sarah will each be walking 50 miles around Coronation Lake — around 150 laps apiece.
• Ben Richardson (Poundstretcher Helston) will be taking on a 100km cycle/run challenge.

Our Quotes

Rev Danny Reed:

“As many of you know, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in January. So between 1st and 26th September, Sarah and I will each be walking 50 miles - around 150 laps of Helston’s boating lake - to raise funds for Macmillan. For someone who normally spends most of his time sat down, this is no small challenge! We’re inviting people to sponsor us - maybe 10p a lap, or if you’re feeling generous, £1 a lap. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. Together we can fund vital research and specialist nursing, and show what Helston’s community spirit is all about."

Sarah Reed:

“When Danny suggested walking 50 miles around Coronation Lake, I knew I had to join him. 150 laps each is a big challenge, but nothing compared to the daily struggles faced by those living with cancer. Walking side by side, our hope is to raise vital funds for Macmillan and show people that together, Helston can achieve something incredible. Every step we take is for those who need support, and every donation will help make that support possible.”

Ben Richardson:

“Between now and the Coffee Morning, I’ll be taking on a 100km cycle and run challenge to help raise as much as possible for Macmillan. Having lost family to cancer, including my dad, I know just how vital the care and support provided by Macmillan is. This challenge is my way of giving something back and standing with those who are facing cancer today. Let’s make this Helston’s biggest and best fundraiser yet.”

Every penny of donations and sponsorship raised through these challenges will be added directly to the Macmillan Coffee Morning fundraiser, giving Helston the best chance possible of raising a fantastic total for Macmillan.

To give you an idea of the impact:
• £6 could provide 25 copies of Macmillan’s resources explaining cancer symptoms
• £10 could give 25 people access to Macmillan’s benefits calculator
• £25 could provide 50 guides to support children coping with loss
• £39 could fund a Macmillan nurse for one hour of vital care
• £54 could support a Macmillan Support Line worker for a year of calls
• £100 could help unlock nearly £3,000 in benefits for someone affected by cancer

This is more than just an event — it’s about showing what Helston can achieve when we come together.

Please donate, share, or join us on the day. If you can’t be there in person, a donation here means the world 💚
